Kindergarten Physical

Today was Taft's 5 year child up and Kindergarten physical rolled into one. We love Dr. Davis. His office is so cute and Taft got to watch Happy Feet while waiting to be called back by Miss Addie. Taft got a great bill of health. He is growing and developing right on track. Great breath sounds and clear lungs, which is very good considering that he has had pneumonia twice already. I have had pneumonia more times than I can count. Even once while I was pregnant with him and once last August. I have prayed that he doesn't get all my allergies and asthma, and so far we are okay. He also had a great time getting his reflexes checked. He was asked to stand on one foot and touch his toes. All the usual and he did great. And the best thing about today's visit is that he didn't need any shots! And we were able to get another photo with Dr. Davis.

4 Year Old Doctor's Check Up

I seriously love this picture.  I always try to get a few before the shots happen.  And we were very happy that the exam room got a new mural since the last visit.  Horton Hears A Who.  It is just so cute.
I think that I need to do this on a wall in Taft's play room.  The black letters are stick on and the others are painted.  I can so do that.
Dr. Davis said that Taft is perfect.  He is good on physical and mental development.  He even picked leaves on the playground at school, stored them in his pocket, and gave them to Dr. Davis and Miss Addie as gifts.  After getting the four shots that he needed today, we are good to go to VPK in the fall.
This was the first time that Taft was old enough to remember and know that he was getting shots.  He got two in each arm.  The first arm was okay but the second one was his MMR and DTaP which both hurt.  He did cry but he was over it fast and on his way to the treats.
The office also got a new gift machine and the kids get cute little coin to use in it.
Here he is with his daddy picking out a nice new friendship bracelet.

He was pretty happy and proud of himself on the way out.  We told him how proud we are of him and that he was so brave.  He really did do great.  I think that it helped to let him know that the shots keep him from getting sick and that Miss Addie would never give him anything that he didn't need.  Then we went to eat at his favorite Cuban Mexican place for some cheese dip.

Allergies

I took Taft to the doctor last Thursday. He had been waking up every night for about a week coughing his little head off. I would hold him up to sleep and give him the Dimetap Cough and he would go back to sleep. We were both losing about an hour and a half each night. The medicine only lasted 4 hours and then up again. He could take it before he went to daycare but by nap time he was coughing again. They will not give him any at school since it is not recommended for children under the age of 6. Our doctor said that he could have it.
So - in we went to try to figure out something else for him. I still have the memories of being in Kindergarten and out in the hall during nap time. I was always coughing if I got hot of tried to lay down. They would put my desk in the hall at nap time and let me color since the other kids couldn't sleep with me in the room. Not something I want for Taft.
Dr. Davis said that I was right and he has the allergy gene. So far no asthma. He is now taking daily Zyrtec and can have Delsym for his cough. It is good for 12 hours and gets him through the night and the daycare day. I can tell that the Zyrtec is working and I hope that it continues to. They have so many new meds out there now. I hope that he will never have to have allergy shots like I did and maybe even no whiskey in the middle of night to get to sleep. (Although that works GREAT) ;0

H1N1 Vaccine

This would be Taft wanting to get out of the stroller. He didn't act up too badly since the nurse called him back rather quickly. Of course, as soon as he got in the exam room he went crazy. He screamed and just stood there. Lucky for us it was a quick shot only visit. He got his H1N1 vaccine. He has to go back in December to get the second one. He has had his regular flu vaccine so we are hoping that we can make the winter without being sick.

15 Month Check Up

Today was Taft's 15 month birthday and his check up at the doctor. Dr. Davis said that Taft is perfect and on target for all of his social and cognitive development. Taft even showed him his fine motor skills while he was trying to text message someone.
He only had one regular vaccine to get today but we decided to get our first flu shot. Since it is his first, he has to go back in a month for the second half. We also talked about the swine flu vaccine and the office will have it next month when we come in. We have decided to get it since the doctor is giving it to all of his children and recommended that Taft do the same since his age group is hit hard.
We had a great little visit and Taft was very good. Even for the shots. He only cries because I hold him down.
He was 23.3 pounds ( 25-50%) and 32 1/4 inches tall (75-90%). He is still tall and skinny!
