This Or That Thursday

Here are a few photos that I took while I was at home in Alabama.  They are of flowers around my grandmother's house.  I just loved the colors.

Sunflower Field

We Taft and I started the drive from Gran's and my parent's house, we noticed that the Cotton Field that we saw in September when we were last in Alabama was now planted with sunflowers.  We had to stop for a few minutes.  There were a lot of bee's so Taft was a little nervous and a little mad that I would not let him pick one since I didn't want to get shot at.

Photo Walk: Flowers

I read a post by Elise Blaha Cripe this week and I loved it.  On Monday afternoon, Taft was wanting to get in the pool and Shane was not ready to take him.  I saw my camera sitting there and had an idea.  Taft and I went on a Photo Walk  Taft loves flowers, and I knew that there would be a lot and easy to find, so that was our theme.
A few of these came from our yard, but the rest we "collected" from the empty lots of wild flowers and neighbors yards.  And of course I had to add a few pictures of Taft.  And I am so loving how involved he was since it was a little game.  I think that we will be doing a lot more of these this summer.

"You All Better Now?"

Sunday I was sick.  I had been vomiting half the night before and I felt like &%^#.  Taft and I were home alone since Shane went to play golf.  Taft was very good.  I barely had to tell him "no" at all.  It is like he just know that Mommy was really sick and he was a sweet boy.
When Shane came home, he took Taft with him to Publix aka The Cookie Store.  When they got home, I say yellow flowers walking over to me.  Taft was smiling and handed them to me and the first thing that he said was, "You all better now Mommy?".  It was very sweet.  He thought that his flowers would cure me right then and there.  Of course I sucked it up and told him, "Yes".
They are still on the kitchen counter in a vase.  Taft keeps a close eye on them.  Trevor Cat loves to eat flowers and Taft screams and scares him off whenever he sees them.  I just love my sweet boy.

Blackberries and Singing

My memory lane for blackberries.  I remember picking these as a child.  It was hot in Alabama when they were ripe and ready for picking.  We would wear jeans and long-sleeved flannel shirts and  head out for berries.  I liked to pick them but would not eat them for anything.  Mawmaw would "put some up" for the winter and make blackberries cobbler.
Lately - Taft and I have been walking in the evenings.  Well - I walk and Taft rides, and most nights we are joined by Jamie and the Meseke children.  Taft's BFF CJ's is a member of this family.  On a walk this week, we noticed that the empty, wooded lots in my neighborhood are covered with blackberry vines.  Lots are ready to pick.  We picked a few as we went and snacked.  CJ and Sami loved them, Taft not so much.  So last night, Taft and I went out for a walk, and he walked too, almost a mile in fact, around the neighborhood searching for berries.  I was not dressed for the occasion and did not wear gloves, my hands are pretty sad today.

Taft learned to pick ones close to him and to stay away from the vines after one attacked him.  I told him that it just thought he was sweet and needed a taste.  He thought he was a big boy.  He continued to walk and to pick.  We talked to a few neighbors and he got to pet a few dogs.  He even got to pick some flowers.  A real favorite for him.

On our walk home, he decided that he wanted to sing.  We sang "10 Little Monkeys" about ten times.  It is his favorite of the moment, and also got in a few ABC's.  He also wanted to count everything.  He is really learning a lot these days and I must say that I think he is very smart.  He notices things that I don't and points them out.  I love to see things through his eyes.

After we were home, we washed out berries.  We got about 6 cups without really trying and there are lots of them out there.  Taft even ate a few.  After his bath, he was out for the count.  Maybe walking is a great way to get him in bed on time.
