{Book Club Friday}: Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

Today is my first Book Club Friday!  I am hoping to get in the swing of reading again and I am sure I will find some great suggestions over at Blonde...Undercover Blonde's link up.
The last book that I read was Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay.

I picked it up on the way to get a pedicure to have something to read and the main reason I settled on it was that it is a historical novel.  The main story is fictional but the events that occurred are factual.
I loved the book and I was unable to put it down once I started.  It is the first book that I have read since becoming a mother and I saw what a different light I view things from.  If you read it, you will see why.
I also see that I must have been under a rock somehow missed the fact that it has been made into a movie.
Here is an overview from Barnes & Noble:
Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten-year-old girl, is taken with her parents by the French police as they go door to door arresting Jewish families in the middle of the night. Desperate to protect her younger brother, Sarah locks him in a bedroom cupboard—their secret hiding place—and promises to come back for him as soon as they are released.
Sixty Years Later: Sarah’s story intertwines with that of Julia Jarmond, an American journalist investigating the roundup. In her research, Julia stumbles onto a trail of secrets that link her to Sarah, and to questions about her own future.
In Sarah’s Key, Tatiana de Rosnay offers up a mesmerizing story in which a tragic past unfolds, the present is torn apart, and the future is irrevocably altered.

And here are some reviews:
“This is a remarkable historical novel, a book which brings to light a disturbing and deliberately hidden aspect of French behavior towards Jews during World War II. Like Sophie's Choice, it's a book that impresses itself upon one's heart and soul forever.”
–Naomi Ragen, author of The Saturday Wife and The Covenant
“Sarah's Key unlocks the star crossed, heart thumping story of an American journalist in Paris and the 60-year-old secret that could destroy her marriage. This book will stay on your mind long after it's back on the shelf.”
–Risa Miller, author of Welcome to Heavenly Heights

I hope that if you pick it up you love it also!  If you are looking for something new to read, or have a book review yourself, hop on over to Book Club Friday and link up!

  3. It is so nice to read these Book club Friday posts.. I have written down many new authors for my next library visit :) That book sounds very interesting, is it new? I mean that it might be difficult to find it from the library ( I live in Finland) because they rarely have the latest books that are in English.

I read a lot and I would like to take a part in this book club. Just that I am writing my own blog in Finnish :) But maybe I could write book club posts in English..

By the way.. I noticed that we have same interests, cooking and crafting. Those two and home decoration are the three main things I am writing about. :)

    Have a nice weekend!

  4. Sanna-Paulina,
The photos on your blog are beautiful. I just wish that I could read Finnish. ;0
I did a little research and you can get the book in Finland. It was published there in 2008. I hope that you find it.
I think that it would great if you wrote your book club posts in English.
    Thanks for stopping by.
