I wasn't sure what to think about a book by Andrew Payne. We met in the 7th grade. I just didn't know what he would write about. Andrew has always been a funny guy and I love his humor on the written page. And, I was thrilled to see that he wrote about himself and our little town and the funny little things that make it home.
I have not seen Andrew a lot since high school. He went to school in TN and I stayed in AL. My friend Kendra and I did drive the hours to Memphis to see him marry his beautiful bride Allison, and check in at Graceland. He now lives in Georgia and I am in Florida. We don't get the chance to run into each other in the Hardee's parking lot to "catch up" very much under those circumstances. But I am proud of Andrew. So is the entire town of Heflin, Al.
I, as a mom, don't always have time to read a novel, but I can take 10-15 minutes to read a story, and this book is a collection of short stories. A funny, make you feel good, and maybe even pee in your pants story.
And yes, that is a young Andrew diving into those leaves. ;0
