I recently came across the website for Memetales and PBS's Readathon 2012. I thought that it would be perfect for Taft (even though we joined a little late). Week one ran from June 18th-24th. I wasn't able to get a craft going that fast so we did week one today and now we will move on to the next level.
Readathon is so cute. You go to memetales.com and sign up. You get the books for free after you sign up and you can read them on the computer, your iphone, Android, or Kindle. The books for the week are free so there is no reason that you can't get them. Taft and I are reading them on the computer. You can find out everything that you need to know to get started by going here.
The theme for Week 1 is Animals. This weeks book are:
We decided to do a duck craft. I cut out 5 ducks from white cardstock and let Taft paint them and glue on their beaks. He also took a piece of light blue cardstock and used two different color blue watercolors to make it look like water. We cut that into a pond and glued it to a green grass background. Then Taft glued the ducks into the water. It was a lot of fun since I don't get out the paint near enough.
We also read some of our favorite animal themed books this week which are:
We can't wait to get started on Week 2's Friendship Theme!
