31 Days | Christmas Cards

The first Christmas Card recorded was in London in 1843. Sir Henry Cole got a painter to make him a card that he could send to his friends and business acquaintances. By the 1860's, sending Christmas Cards in Britain was a popular tradition. It didn't take off in the United States until Louis Prang (known as the father of the American Christmas Card), made a card for his customers in 1875. Now it is the most sent card of the year.
Their are so many Christmas Cards options. Folded traditional cards, postcards, and photo cards. Even e-cards for the holidays.

December Daily - Day 15

Day 15 - Today was all about the Christmas Card. Our friend, Wes, went with us to be the photographer and we drove out to the Old Brick Road in our county. Many years ago, like 100, it was the main road coming in to the beach. It was all brick. A lot of it is gone now but there are still a few places with brick in the middle. It is a county road but we only saw one other car and it was deer hunters. There is nothing out there besides road and wilderness. You would never know you were so close to town.
I added the text with the computer and took the file to Staples. Within minutes I had a Christmas Card. Now I just need to get them in the mail.

The first page has a few photos from last year and an explanation of Quincy the Elf. Since he will be a BIG part of our December.

Day 1: On the left in 2 up page protectors, photos of our elf visit. There is a card on the right that is one of the ones we sent the troops. I plan on stitching down the side since I cut the page protector to fit the card.

December Daily - Day 1

In a way, we started December 1st yesterday. Taft and I were out trying to finish up some Christmas shopping and went to KMart. They had all of their store brand boxed cards 50% off, making them $3 a box. I remembered seeing something about mailing cards to the troops and thought it would be a nice idea. I let Taft have the freedom to pick the cards. We went through a few since he seemed to like the ones with glitter and you can't send those. After he picked a box, he was very proud of himself. It was all we bought and the checkout lady let him have the bag. He was a big boy!
I worked on writing in a message from our family last night after dinner. You are limited to sending 15 cards per family and by the time I got to number 15, my hand hurt. =) We will mail them out today.

In other news, Quincy Elf made his way back to our house last night. Taft was excited to see him. I know that he doesn't really understand him yet, but he was something different to see and he noticed right away. Quincy was sitting in his favorite chair in the family room.


I am adding text to the photos to help with journaling in the album this year. I also decided to do a opening page with the story of Quincy and added a few photos of Quincy's arrival last year to it. If you want to know about Quincy, you can look in the December 2008 archives.
***Note: I had planned to post photos of my finished pages today, but my local Walgreens lost my photo order. I was only able to go out once today for errands, so I will post both tomorrow.

We finally got our Christmas cards. I guess that I am just too picky. I didn't like the ones to choose from at Portrait Innovations so I search every site that I could find to get one that I liked and that was not outrageous in price. I finally settled on this one from CVS since it has Red Nosed Reindeer on it and Taft is REALLY into Rudolph. I did learn that CVS photo department in the store has no idea what is going on with your online order and instead of just telling you that they each tell you a different thing. Next year I will just order sooner.
